Units and keyboard shortcuts¶
GISweaver shows every distance, area and coordinate in the units you choose, and the map and the Console answer to a few keys. This page lists both.
Units¶
You choose your units in Preferences › Units and formats. The choice is yours alone: it follows you into every organisation you belong to and changes nothing for your colleagues.
| What | Units you can choose |
|---|---|
| Distances | metres, feet |
| Areas, shown beside square metres | hectares, acres, square feet |
| Coordinates | Decimal degrees (WGS 84); Degrees, minutes, seconds (WGS 84); Projected grid coordinates |
A unit changes only how a figure is written; it never changes the survey. Read the unit beside every figure. A height GISweaver cannot read is unknown, never zero.
Regional land units (India)¶
These areas are also on the list. Each is a fixed size.
| Unit | Size |
|---|---|
| square yard (gaj) | 9 square feet, 0.83612736 m² |
| cent | one hundredth of an acre, 40.468564224 m² |
| guntha | one fortieth of an acre, 101.17141056 m² |
| ground | 2,400 square feet, 222.967296 m² |
Other regional names, such as bigha or kanal, mean different sizes in different places, so GISweaver does not offer them. Check a figure on the same tab converts one figure between units.
Coordinate systems¶
Every project has a coordinate system, named by its EPSG code, for example 32643. Use the code stated in the survey information.
A geographic system uses degrees and a projected grid uses metres, so do not compare or copy values between them. You set the code when you create the project. You can correct it, and the project number, on Projects under Rename until the project holds data.
Keyboard shortcuts on the map¶
The keys work while the map has the focus, not while you are typing in a box.
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
| 1, 2, 3, 4 | Pick a tool: Select, Point, Distance, Area. Pressing the key of the tool in use goes back to Select. |
| W | Window zoom: drag a box to zoom to it |
| F | Fit the survey into view |
| Z | Zoom to what is selected |
| + and − | Zoom in and out |
| Alt and ← or → | Previous view, next view |
| Enter | Finish a distance or a polygon |
| Backspace | Remove the last point of a shape you are drawing |
| Delete or Backspace | In Select, delete the selected saved work |
| Ctrl and Z, or ⌘ and Z | Undo the last change while you edit a measurement's points (Edit the points) |
| Esc | Step back one level: drop what you were typing, then stop placing a shape (it stays as a draft), then put the tool down, then clear the selection |
| ? | Open the Map guide |
| Arrow keys | With a dock's edge focused, resize that dock; add Shift to resize it farther |
Elsewhere on the map, undo a measurement with Undo measurement on the tool strip.
In a message box¶
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
| Enter | On a computer, send the message. On a phone, start a new line; Send sends. |
| Shift and Enter | Start a new line |
| Ctrl and Enter, or ⌘ and Enter | Send the message |
Keyboard shortcuts in the Console¶
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
| ⌘K on a Mac, Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux | Open the search |
| / | Open the search, when you are not typing in a box |
| ↑ and ↓, then Enter | Move through search results and open one |
| Esc | Close the search |
See Find anything and Move around the map.
