Preview a PDF or a photo¶
Open a file attached to a parcel or a saved measurement from the map, without downloading it.
- With a project open on the map, select the parcel or the measurement: on the map, or under Saved work in the rail. The Inspector shows it.
- In the Inspector, choose the Files tab. It lists the attached files.
- Select the file's name. It opens in a viewer over the map.
- For a PDF, turn the pages with Previous and Next. With several files, move between them with the arrows at the sides of the viewer, or the Left and Right arrow keys.
- Select Close (the ×). The map is back.
What happens next¶
Nothing changes in the project. To keep a copy, select Download original (size) for a PDF or a video, or Download (size) for a photo, in the viewer's bar; the button shows the file's size. A PDF or a video downloads as it was uploaded; a photo downloads as the copy the project keeps, not the camera's file.
If something goes wrong¶

- The preview could not be loaded. The original is still available to download. Download it instead.

Details¶
Attach a file to a parcel or a measurement¶
In the Files tab, select Attach, find the file or link in Attach a project file or link, and select it. Detach takes it off again; the file stays in the project's files. People who can only read the project cannot attach or detach.
Which files have a preview¶
A PDF gets one picture per page, up to the first 200 pages. A photographic image, such as a photo or a scanned plan, gets one picture. Map files (GeoJSON, DXF, LAS, ZIP and elevation GeoTIFFs) have no preview.
A preview is for reading. Fine print, thin lines and colours are close to the original but not identical, and a preview is not a measurement source. Download the original to print it, measure from it or search its text.
Who can see a preview¶
Anyone who can open the original file in the project can see its preview. A reviewer you send the file to sees it too, even when their review access does not include downloading originals.
An organisation you share a release with, or deliver it to, gets no preview, only the original files. A preview does not count towards your organisation's storage.
On a phone¶
The viewer fills the screen, with its bar at the foot. Swipe left or right to move between files.
Other places the viewer opens¶
The same viewer opens from a project's Files list and its releases in the Console. To attach or detach a file, see Attach a file or link to a feature.
