Delete a file permanently

Who can do this

Owners and Admins delete permanently; a project lead may also delete a file they added that was never in a release. Every plan.

Open in GISweaver

Deleting a file permanently removes it everywhere, frees its storage and stops your client downloading it, and that cannot be undone.

  1. Open Projects and choose the project.
  2. Find the file by where it is now, route A or B below.

A. The file is in the Files list

  1. Open the ⋯ menu on the file's row and select Delete…. The Delete panel opens.
  2. Select Delete permanently…. The panel shows a warning and a storage forecast.
  3. Check the forecast, then select Delete permanently.

B. The file is already deleted

  1. Select Show 3 deleted files under the list (the number is how many there are). The deleted files are listed.
  2. Open the ⋯ menu on the file's row and select Delete permanently…. The panel shows a warning and a storage forecast.
  3. Check the forecast, then select Delete permanently.

What happens next

GISweaver says … was deleted permanently. From then on nothing in GISweaver serves the file: not its download, its map layer, its preview or its place in a release's download. A client who opens a delivery of that release reads that the file was deleted permanently on that day and can no longer be downloaded.

Within the hour the stored copy is removed, your storage drops by the file's size, and the row reads Deleted with Storage freed. A copy your client already downloaded is theirs and is not affected.

If something goes wrong

  • Delete permanently… is not offered. Owners and Admins can delete any file permanently. A project lead can delete permanently only a file they added that has never been in a release; ask an Owner or an Admin for any other.
  • The row still reads Deleted permanently, not Storage freed, more than an hour later. Contact support.
  • You deleted a file permanently by mistake. It cannot be undone. Add the file again and publish a new release if your client needs it.
