What GISweaver keeps from a site photo¶
A phone writes hidden fields into every photo; GISweaver removes the device details and keeps the place and time, showing them beside the photo.
What is kept and what is removed¶
A phone's hidden fields include its make and serial number and often where and when the photo was taken. GISweaver keeps the place and time because they are what makes a site photo evidence.
| Part of the photo | What GISweaver does |
|---|---|
| Every hidden camera field, such as the phone's make and model, its serial number, the lens and the software | Removed before anyone can download the photo |
| Where it was taken (latitude and longitude, when the camera had a position) | Kept and shown beside the photo |
| When it was taken (when the camera recorded the time with its time zone) | Kept and shown beside the photo |
| Its colours, and which way up it goes | Kept in the picture |
The photo you download carries no location; GISweaver shows the place and time beside it, to anyone in your organisation who can open the project. Its bytes differ from the file the phone wrote.
Check what was kept¶
Open the photo in the project's Files list. The line under it reads Taken … at …, or No time or place recorded by the camera.
That second line means the camera had no position fix, or wrote the time without its time zone. The photo is kept as usual; add a note in its thread if the place matters.
Keep the place out of a photo¶
GISweaver has no switch to drop the place from a photo it has kept. Turn location off for the camera before you take the photo, or remove the location on the phone before you add it. To keep the place and time, leave location on for the camera and add the photo as in Take site photos on a phone.
Compressed or full quality¶
Your organisation chooses, under Photos on the Privacy tab of Settings, whether photos are Compress on upload (recommended) or Keep full quality. Either way the hidden fields are removed and the place and time are kept. A change applies to the next photo added.
Owners and Admins change it; everyone else reads Your organisation’s owner or an admin can change this.
