Accept an ownership transfer

Who can do this

The person the owner named

Accept an offer of ownership from the current Owner, and become the Owner of the organisation.

  1. Open the link in the handover email.

The screen Take over an organisation on GISweaver names who made the offer and the organisation. It says that accepting makes you the owner and that the former owner stays on the team as an administrator.

  2. If an account exists for that address, select Sign in to accept.

Sign in with the address the request was sent to, and you come straight back to this screen.

  3. If no account exists for that address, type a password in Choose a password.

The screen makes the account when you accept, and the address is already confirmed.

  4. Tick I accept the terms of service.

Read the terms opens them beside the box.

  5. Select Accept and become the Owner.

If you chose a password in step 3, the button reads Create account and become the Owner instead.

You become the Owner. The organisation's projects, its team, its billing and its survey deliveries become yours to run, and the former owner becomes an Admin.

What happens next

You can now do what only the Owner can do, such as transferring ownership again. See Transfer ownership of the organisation.

If something goes wrong

  • This handover request is no longer valid. It may have expired, been withdrawn or already been accepted. Ask the current Owner to send a new request. A request lasts 7 days.
  • This handover link is incomplete. Open the link in the handover email again.
  • Ownership cannot be handed over yet because the terms of service are not published. Tell the current owner; nothing is lost while you wait. Tell the current owner.
  • You are signed in with another address. Sign out, then sign in with the address the request was sent to. The request works only for that address.
