Frequently asked questions

Short answers, each with a link to the page that has the steps. If your question is not here, ask GISweaver support.

Signing in and joining

I forgot my password. What do I do?

Select Forgot your password? on the sign-in page and follow the email. See Reset a forgotten password. To get in straight away without it, ask for a sign-in link.

Sign-in says it is paused. Why?

After five wrong passwords close together, password sign-in pauses for fifteen minutes. A sign-in link still works on an account without two-factor authentication. See Sign in to GISweaver.

I lost the phone with my authenticator app.

Sign in with one of your recovery codes instead of the six-digit code. If you have none left, ask the owner of your organisation, or ask support.

Google or Microsoft sign-in says "That Google sign-in took too long or was already used. Try again."

The sign-in usually began on the wrong address, such as the plain gisweaver.com instead of your organisation's own application address. Start the sign-in again from your usual application address.

I am told "You have been signed out."

Your protected session ended. Sign in again; GISweaver returns to the same Console page when you still have access. Anything already saved is unaffected, but work not saved in that screen must be entered again.

I cannot accept an invitation.

Open the newest invitation link and sign in with the email address that received it. If it has expired, ask the sender for a new invitation. See Join an organisation you were invited to.

My colleagues use GISweaver. Should I create an organisation?

No. Ask one of them to invite you, then join from the email. A new organisation cannot see their work.

Sign-up asks for an access code. Where do I get one?

From GISweaver support or your GISweaver contact. A referral code from another organisation does not open sign-up by itself. See Create your organisation.

I joined, but Projects is empty.

An organisation member sees no projects until someone gives them a role on a branch or a project. Ask whoever invited you. Also check you are in the right organisation: see Switch to another organisation.

I cannot see a project my colleague can see.

Check that you are in the right organisation. Then ask an Owner or Admin to check your role on the organisation, branch or project.

Something I expect is missing from the navigation, or New project is unavailable.

The navigation lists only what your role can open. Read the reason beside an unavailable action: your role, your organisation's status or your plan may not allow it. See Find your way around the Console.

Projects and files

Which files can I add?

LAS and LAZ point clouds, GeoJSON, ASCII DXF, KML, KMZ, GeoPackage, zipped Shapefile and GeoTIFF survey files, which GISweaver draws, and every other file a survey team uses, such as photos, videos, PDFs, DWG drawings, other ZIP archives, CSV and Office files, which it keeps as they came. Programs, scripts and web pages are refused. See Supported files and limits.

My file is marked Not a survey file.

These are refused, among others: programs, scripts, disk images, macro-enabled Office files and web pages. Send the data they carry in an ordinary format. The full list, with a file whose name does not match its content, an unreadable encoding and an oversize file, is in Files that are refused.

My file was refused for its size.

Your plan sets the largest file you can add. The message names the file's size and the largest your plan accepts. See What your plan allows per file.

Can I add a LAZ or COPC point cloud?

Yes: a LAZ or COPC file is added like a LAS and drawn in 3D. A cloud of about 15 GB of point data once unpacked is the advisory size; a larger one is kept as its original and not drawn, so split it into smaller files to draw it. See Supported files and limits.

A point cloud took too long or needed too much memory.

A very large file may time out or need more memory than GISweaver allows. A cloud that passes the time limit is kept as Original only, for download, and running out of memory still fails the upload. Split the cloud into smaller files and send those.

My point cloud does not appear on the map.

Point clouds are drawn in 3D only. In 2D, choose View in 3D on its row in Layers; in 3D, choose Retry if the cloud could not be downloaded, then Report a problem if it keeps failing. A different coordinate system does not stop it: GISweaver draws the cloud reprojected and marks it Source CRS EPSG:n; shown reprojected. See Look at a point cloud in 3D.

An upload stopped when I closed the laptop.

Open it in Uploads and choose the same file again to resume, before the retained parts expire. See Resume an interrupted upload.

My file reads Refused or Failed.

The reason is under the file's name. See Fix a file that stopped.

An upload says Waiting, Checking or Processing.

Waiting means the file is held in this browser for an upload slot; keep the tab open, and choose the file again if the tab closes. Checking and Processing mean the file arrived; wait for Ready before looking for a release. See the file statuses.

An upload says Not confirmed.

GISweaver did not confirm the cancellation. Open the file and choose Check again before sending it again; see When a cancellation is not confirmed.

An upload says Expired.

Its retained parts are no longer available. Start a new upload with the intended file.

A file says Already here, or … is already in this project.

GISweaver found the same file contents already held or on their way in. A project keeps one copy: a file sent to the same project again is not kept or charged once its checks find the same contents, and the line names the file that is there. Another project may keep its own copy.

A file says Same name, different file.

The filename is similar but the content is different. Check that you selected the intended version before sending.

An upload is Ready, but there is nothing to draw.

A ZIP, a PDF and a photographic TIFF are kept as the original and not drawn. A single-band elevation GeoTIFF becomes an elevation grid.

A PDF or photographic TIFF shows no preview.

The release list says why: the PDF is password-protected, the file could not be read, it is too large, or making the preview failed. The original is kept and can be downloaded either way. See PDF and photo previews.

Which coordinate system (EPSG code) should I use for a project?

Use the EPSG code stated in the survey specification. The new-project form suggests common grids for your organisation's country, and you can search any other EPSG code in the registry. See Create a project.

I chose the wrong coordinate system for a project. Can I change it?

Yes, while the project holds no data: you can change its EPSG code until it has a map file (even one later removed), an uploaded or non-draft release, a survey object or alignment, or a live upload in progress; after that, create a new project with the right code. See Change a project's details and Create a project.

Does adding a file publish it?

No. Files join the project's draft. You publish a release when the survey is right.

The map

The map is blank, or shows the wrong place.

Select Fit survey to bring the survey back into view, and check its layers are ticked in Layers. See Move around the map and Turn layers on and off.

The status line says a layer did not draw completely.

The layer's features did not arrive, often because the connection went quiet. Pan or zoom to ask again, or select Retry on the status line.

Window zoom does not work.

Drag across the visible survey surface. Use Esc to cancel the active tool and try again.

An exact measurement figure cannot be computed.

Exact measurements work only in projects in EPSG:32643 or EPSG:4326. Check that easting and northing are not swapped and are in metres.

Corridor review is unavailable.

Corridor review works only in projects in EPSG:32643 (WGS 84 / UTM zone 43N).

A survey export is refused, or says it is at its ceiling.

Each organisation has a fixed ceiling of 2,000 issued exports or 2 GiB. Exports require exact measurements or pinned releases, and recipient exports require download permission.

An export is incomplete or warns about data.

Review the selected view, export area and visible layers in Layers. Read the preview or warning before generating another export.

A result uses unexpected metres, feet or area units. Changing my units moved nothing.

Units change only how figures are written on your screen, never the survey. Open Preferences › Units and formats in your account menu to choose them. See Units and keyboard shortcuts.

A saved-work change conflicts.

Reload to read the server version before deciding what to save again.

Sharing and delivering

What is the difference between sharing and delivering?

A share lets another organisation look at a release on the map while you allow it. A delivery hands them the files to download and add to their own projects.

A shared release or tool is unavailable.

Check the shared release details. The sender may have limited tools, layers, downloads or the access period.

A delivery cannot be downloaded.

Open its received or sent details and check its access period. Confirm you are in the intended organisation.

A file is listed as Not included.

The sender gave client access to selected files, and a file outside the selection cannot be downloaded from it. Ask the sender to give new client access if you need another file.

My client can see a file but cannot download it.

Seeing a file and downloading it are separate permissions, and downloads stay off until you allow them. Turn on Download original files, Download map layers, Open project files or Copy files into their own project, as appropriate. See Give a client organisation access and Download original files when allowed.

Can my client read our conversation?

Only the threads you mark for them. A client reviewer sees one only when it is Visible to the client and about a file, a feature or a saved item in their review, never a project note, and a client with shared-release access, not a review invitation, sees none in that release. See Mark a thread for your client.

Giving a client access, or sharing a release, says "This release cannot be shared: its record of what is in it is incomplete, and support has to look at it."

Waiting does not help, and nothing retries it on its own. Open a support ticket from the message, or go to Console → Help, and name the release.

Plans and limits

A button says something is not part of our plan.

Your organisation's plan does not include it. Owners, Admins, Billing managers and Auditors can see the plan and what each plan includes on Billing; select See what each plan includes. See Billing.

A screen says our plan is full.

You have reached a plan limit, such as people, new projects this month or uploads this month. Open Console → Organisation → Billing → Plan and usage to see the number, your use and the reset date. Nothing you already have is removed. See Billing.

Our organisation shows Frozen. Is our data gone?

No. A frozen organisation keeps everything, and people can still sign in and read it; new work cannot be saved until an Owner pays to unfreeze it with Unfreeze your organisation on Billing. See Billing.

A payment did not change the plan.

Read the payment result in Billing. If your bank verification was not completed or the payment failed, the plan remains unchanged.

Our public profile disappeared, or Publish is unavailable.

Open Console → Organisation → Organisation controls → Public profile and read the status:

  • Hidden while reports are reviewed clears by itself if GISweaver staff find nothing to act on.
  • Hidden by GISweaver or Publishing turned off needs support: use Console → Help.

Only Owners and Admins see this page. See Public profile.

Help

How do I reach a person?

Open a ticket from Help, or use Report a problem on the screen where something went wrong, as in Ask GISweaver support for help. Include the action you took, the exact message, the project or release, and for an upload its transfer reference and stage. Do not send passwords, authenticator codes, recovery codes or unrelated survey files.

Which version of GISweaver am I using?

It is at the foot of the Console's navigation, as Console v and the number; on a phone, open the navigation menu first. On the map, open your picture or name at the top right, and the line is at the foot of the account menu.

A step on my screen differs from the guide.

Follow your screen. Your screen can show more or fewer controls than a picture because of your role, your plan or the size of your screen. If a step and your screen disagree, tell support which page and which step: see Ask GISweaver support for help.
